Forgot to enter 1099-R which was a QCD

I forgot to enter a 1099-R on my 1040.  The entire amount was my RMD from a traditional IRA and was distributed directly to qualified charities.  I've gone through the steps of completing an amended return but since the amount is considered a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) there is no change to my taxable income or any other values on 1040-X.  How do I notify the IRS of the omission and the fact that it's a QCD?

You do not need to notify the IRS. All the information is there in your amended return and this is proof enough to the IRS that you did your due diligence and reported the 1099R.  You do not necessarily need to have a tax change to prepare an amended return. In this case, you prepared the 1099R for informational purposes only.

I don't think you understood my question...  I haven't submitted an amended return to the IRS yet.  All they have is my original 1040 which omits a 1099-R.  My question is really about the 1040-X form (amended tax return).  If I fill that out, there are no figures that change.  The only thing I can do is write a note that says I forgot to include a 1099-R on my original filing and tell them the entire amount was a QCD and therefore doesn't affect my taxes.  Is this what I should do?
