Billing Notice - Why are you billing me?

In a normal filing season, when the IRS can simply concentrate on processing returns ONCE this would not be a problem for most people.  If you are willing to pay a CPA upfront to file your return then you should do the same when using the TT program.  Using the refund processing service for an extra fee is never the best choice IMHO.

Of course this has not been a normal filing season as the IRS has been tasked with putting out stimulus payments, reconciling stimulus credits, recalculating the returns for retroactive tax law changes,  processing unneeded amended returns  AND putting out monthly  advance CTC payments all while being understaffed and using dated equipment.  If you wish to protest please call your local congress person and demand they stop this foolishness and/or  fund the IRS properly so they can do the job they are asked to do.

Billing Notice - Why are you billing me?

If you chose to pay your TurboTax fees out of your Federal refund, and if your Federal refund has been delayed unusually long at the IRS (or if it's been reduced), TurboTax will want to be paid.  They likely started sending you emailed bills to pay.  If you don't respond by either paying or asking for a deferment, they will ultimately debit your bank account.  If you can't pay now and wish to ask for a deferment, you need to do so quickly.

See this FAQ that explains the process.  The first paragraph of the FAQ has a special phone number if you have a question or have a hardship and need to ask for a deferment.

Hours are 5AM-5PM Pacific (8AM-8PM Eastern),  Mon-Fri

If you need to ask for a deferment, you should call them as soon as possible.  Once they actually start the debit process, they say they can't stop it.

If you’re in need of assistance, call us by the Tuesday prior to your debit date at 1-888-808-1723 to speak with a trained specialist and mention “auto-debit”, or visit TurboTax Support.

If for some reason you can't reach Support with that phone number in the FAQ, there may be one in your emailed bill.  Otherwise, here's an alternate way to reach them, but try the one mentioned above first.

Billing Notice - Why are you billing me?

I have been receiving multiple emails stating your going to be billing my credit card for a outstanding balance when i did my taxes i signed up for the payment to be deducted from my refund. Unfortunately I have not received my refund as of yet. I have been calling the irs daily to verify information that they have requested unfortunately at this time i haven't been able to get through do to extremely high call volume. I have also read over the payment agreement with you as well as spoken to another irs agent from intake department and was informed that i can't be billed through your company because my refund was approved they just needed verification of my personal identity due to my identity being stolen/used a few years back. I just ask that you be patient and the irs will have it deducted as soon as everything is cleared.

Thank You for your patience,

Sincerely,

Marie Balducci

See this TurboTax support FAQ for payment of the account fees - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/charges-and-fees/help/why-was-my-bank-account-auto-debited-for-tur...

When you chose the option to have the TurboTax account fees paid from the federal tax refund you also agreed to have the fees paid from your bank account if the refund was reduced or delayed.

Billing Notice - Why are you billing me?

This is absolutely ridiculous!!! I have been using TT since 1994, and I have/had recommended the downloadable CD to a number of my associates. BUT, since they started this BS of putting in Activation

Codes in before you can even use the CD to do your taxes, it's crazy!! What is the purpose of this procedure

if it serves no  legit purpose!!! I believe it's a way of keeping track to see how you are using the program. Sometimes I have to when I start up my program to do a return, I have to put this code in again! What for? It's the same as from the beginning. Now, I had to redownload the 2019 CD and it's telling me I don't have the right "activation code" but it says it was copied. So IF it was copied where did it go?!! Now I have to sit here til Monday to get this fixed!!!

NEWS FLASH................. THIS IS THE LAST YEAR THAT I WILL BE USING TURBO TAX TO DO MY RETURN!!!

I have supported TT for 27 yrs. This is it!!! DONE..... THROUGH..... END OF LINE

Billing Notice - Why are you billing me?

don't you people think if people could pay upfront to do their taxes, they would have? it's pretty obvious people choose to have it taken out of their return because that's when they'll have money to pay it. It's hilarious that when using you guys to file my taxes i was told none of this would happen. if there were going to be delays, and reduces and such, why not tell us that? nope. just file our taxes, take our money and we can just get bent? crazy to me that it's been 6 months and my refund is still "processing"..

then you guys wanna sit there and copy and paste your CoC and ToS and whatever else, like everyone reads that crap everytime. Hmmm, maybe your "experts" could have given us a heads up? nah, play it shady and corrupt as all get out and then send en email saying you want your 45$... have fun taking those funds from an account that has no money in it because no refund THAT YOU PEOPLE DID has shown up yet. I will not only never use turbo tax again but i am making it my mission to make sure no one around me uses you, people, either. we have to wait an "x" amount of time because of a multitude of issues that could have happened, one being mistakes done on your side. i had you my w2... ONE FLIPPING DOCUMENT and you morons screw it up so now i'll probably never see my refund. but no worries, you all up in my emails about that 45$. I can tell you rn, you people will not receive a cent from me. Corrupt apes.

Billing Notice - Why are you billing me?

Same here and I am SO upset. I’ve always liked TurboTax but I will not use them again because of this!

Billing Notice - Why are you billing me?

They just did this same thing to me. TURBO TAX, I will never use your product ever again and I will make sure to tell everyone I know about this experience, so you cannot continue taking advantage of struggling Americans!!! SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!

Billing Notice - Why are you billing me?

Again not only did you choose this option and had to agree to it twice after being given the chance to read the contract  but you are also sent 3 warning emails to alert you to what will be happening and when but there were also instructions on how to delay the debit.  Failure of the user to read the contract or take heed of the email alerts is not a TT failing.

Yes we all know things are tough  but Intuit needs to collect their fees so they can continue to pay their bills and employees.   Why do you think they should wait forever to be paid ?   They are a public for profit  company  not a charity.  The stock holders, employees and vendors  all expect timely payments.  And all the tax prep companies have the same contracts with the same processing banks so if you do this again anywhere else make sure to read the terms of the processing service before you sign it.

Billing Notice - Why are you billing me?

I did not receive any alerts. This is out of my control as well, and I did not authorize Turbo tax to debit my personal account, I agreed to have the fees taken directly out of my refund. We can agree to disagree, I will do my best to let people I know of this experience and how Turbo tax is a horrible company!!!! Again, SHAME ON YOU!!!

Billing Notice - Why are you billing me?

I just got notice that my auto debit didn’t clear my account, so now I have their fee and a bank fee. There a lot of judgy comments in here, not everyone has extra money floating around to file their taxes every year, and it’s rude to come in here and be condescending to people when it has nothing to do with you. It’s absolutely ridiculous that with everything the whole country has been through the past year and half, that intuit would not come up with a plan for delayed tax payments. The IRS has been telling everyone from the beginning of the year that payment would be delayed, but intuit doesn’t care. This doesn’t affect people that have plenty of money, this affects those of us who live paycheck to paycheck and need every penny that we make. This actually really hurts our family at a time where if my job can’t find a way to hire more people ASAP, we will probably have to close and I will be out of work. Intuit should be doing more to make policies to that make sense in times of pandemic and pandemic aftermath.

Sorry you're having trouble with that fee situation.   If their auto-debit has caused you to incur overdraft/non-sufficient fees (NSF fees), you do have some recourse for the overdraft fees.  You will have to talk to Support to inform them of the situation and get an Incident Number from the person who takes your report.  Then see this FAQ:

FAQ: How to submit a non-sufficient funds (NSF) case for review:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/charges-and-fees/help/submit-an-nsf-fee-case-for-review/00/25701

NOTE:  As the FAQ says, you should redact  (black out) other personal info such as the account number, etc.

Hours are 5AM-5PM Pacific (8AM-8PM Eastern) Monday-Friday.

You can use this contact form to get a phone number, or it may schedule a callback.
https://support.turbotax.intuit.com/contact

When you talk to them, be sure you work something out with them, or they may try to send the auto-debit through again.
