Amending a prior year return that was not done with Turbotax

Is it possible to amend a prior year return that was not done in Turbo tax by purchasing the TurboTax CD version and importing the existing return then amending it with the software?

Yes, you can use TurboTax to prepare your amendment, even if you did not file using the software.

How to amend (change or correct) a return you already filed

  After you click on the year you want to amend, you should select the option to amend using CD/downloaded software.

Please note that these instructions assume that you prepared your return using TurboTax.  Since you did not, you will want to enter the information from your return as originally filed, then proceed starting in Step 3.

You can't import the existing original return.  You would have to first recreate the original return exactly as it was filed.  You can use the Forms Mode.  Then say you want to mail it and print it out so Turbo Tax thinks it was filed.  Then you can amend.
