My 1099 originator changed its 1099-NEC to a 1099-MISC
AFTER i already filed, so I went ahead and did an amended return on May 5 2024
I got an ACCEPTED message from IRS
however
it has been long since that day I did not get my refund neither I heard a feedback from IRS
on either REFUND SENT
so what do I do? Does it take this long?

It can take the IRS 16 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 3 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.
It sounds like you filed the amended return before you got the refund from your original tax return. That can cause delays. You should have waited to file the amended return until you got the refund from the original return. But there's nothing you can do about that now. You just have to wait it out.
Check the status of your original refund using Where's My Refund? on the IRS web site.
Check the status of your amended return using Where's My Amended Return? on the IRS web site.
But as DoninGA said, the normal processing time for an amended return is 16 weeks or more. So it's not surprising that you have not heard anything after only 3 months.
