Question re: amended 2016 return. Already received a refund, but then received a 1098-E form showing interest i had paid in 2016. when i amended my return using TurboTax, the refund amount changed to a lesser amount than i already received! does this mean

Please look at the 1040X carefully. It sounds like it is reporting an ADDITIONAL refund.

Usually the 1040X shows the original calculations, the changes, and then the differences.

If the changes of adding student loan interest resulted in more refund, the original refund you received is subtracted from that and the result seems to be another refund.

Please look at the 1040X carefully. It sounds like it is reporting an ADDITIONAL refund.
