part of 2021 amended return refund went to 2022 estimated taxes0

I filed an amended 2021 Federal return to reduce my taxes owed and received a check for less than I expected. Upon further review, I did not notice that TurboTax had allocated some of my 2021 amended refund towards 2022 estimated taxes. My 2022 taxes were filed on time, so there was no need for more 2022 estimated taxes.

What action should I take to get that portion of my refund back:

1) Wait and the IRS will notice that my 2022 taxes were overpaid and they will send the refund to me.

2) File an amended 2022 refund (and verify that none is allocated to 2023 estimated taxes).

3) Call the IRS to see what they recommend.

4) something else?

Thanks,

Dave

Thank you.

It turns out that I was misreading my 1040X return... Line 23 is the line to apply a portion of your refund to future estimated taxes. But the amount field for that line is blacked out, you cannot enter an amount there.

I must have scrolled past the end of the 1040X and was looking at the original 1040 form where I had applied my original refund to future estimated taxes. I got the refund I was due, and TurboTax did not make a mistake.
