Do you mean the bank sent it back to the IRS? Did you have a wrong account number or some other incorrect information entered? When the bank sends a refund back to the IRS, the IRS issues a paper check and mails the check to the address on your tax return.

If the bank rejected your direct deposit, the refund was sent back to the IRS. The IRS will send you a refund check in the mail to the address on your tax return.
