Oops. I forgot to include the sale of a real estate property when I filed my 2015 taxes. Can I amend my return through turbo tax?

I made the sale in January 2015.  Property was purchased for 26K and sold for 22K.

Yes, you can amend your income tax return through TurboTax. Please see the instructions below.

Before you get started, read this to make sure you actually need to amend. Another popular tip: you have until April 18, 2019 to amend your 2015 taxes.

1. Sign in to your TurboTax account. 
2. Click Taxes in the upper left corner.
3. In the 2015 Tax Year section, click Amend (change) return. 
   • If you don't see this and you see a big, orange Take me to my return button, you don't need to amend. You can make any changes because you haven't filed your taxes yet.
4. In the pop-up window, click Amend using TurboTax Online
5. When you see Welcome Back, click Amend (change) a filed and accepted return.
   • If you are on a different screen, click Federal Taxes, then Other Tax Situations, then click Amend a Return.
6. Click Continue on the We'll help you change (amend) your return screen.
7. Follow the on-screen directions to amend your return.
   • It is completely normal if your refund drops to zero or does strange things while you are amending. Your calculations will come out correctly in the end.
8. When you're done, we'll give you instructions to print and mail your amended return because they can't be e-filed.

You can track your amended taxes with the IRS tracking tool. It takes the IRS around 16 weeks to process your amended taxes.

The processing time for amended state return differs from state to state. Contact your state to find out how long it takes them to process your amended taxes.
