Turbotax is never notified of tax refund deposits so it could not have stated for a fact that your refund was deposited. what you may be looking at is an estimate that Turbotax gives of when to expect your refund. It is not a guarantee.   one way to check on 2020 is to review the IRS transcript of that return. if there isn't one then either the IRS never got it or for some taxpayers, the IRS still has not processed it.

We don't know what you mean by "TurboTax stated....."   What does that refer to?

That's been a year ago.  Is this your first time to check on it, or is there more to the story?

How did you file the 2020 return?   Did you efile, or did you choose to print and mail a paper return?   If you physically printed and mailed a paper return, the IRS got quite behind in processing 2020 paper returns.

In any case, you can start by checking the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool, which now has a new feature and can look up refunds for 2019 and 2020 as well as the current tax year 2021.    See what is displayed there in that "Where's My Refund" tool for your 2020 return.

Here are some tips when using the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool:

  • Be sure you enter the correct SSN and filing status.
  • In your case, choose tax year 2020.
  • Be sure you are using only the 2020 Federal refund amount.   Do not include any state refund or any total refund or net refund (Fed and State) that TurboTax may have provided on a screen.
  • Look at your actual 2020 Federal return to get the Federal refund amount, i.e., your 2020 Form 1040, Line 35a.

What information do you see in that tool?  Or does it not find your information?

If it comes to it, we can tell you how to phone the IRS to inquire about it.
