Need to amend 2016 tax. Have not filed yet.

I completed my tax return yesterday (4/8/17), selected to mail but have not done so yet.  I just realized that I have a 1099R that I need to include. Do I need to amend even though I have not mail the return?  Can I just edit?

You do not need to amend if you have not mailed or e-filed your return. Here is how to re-enter your return to make changes once the program thinks you are finished:

  1. In TurboTax Online, sign into your account.
  2. From the Welcome home box on the left, Click on Visit My Tax Timeline below the Download/print return button.
  3. Under SOME THINGS YOU CAN DO click on Add a state (you are not adding a state, this just re-opens the program). You should now be able to make changes to your federal return by selecting the Federal taxes tab.
