If your spouse is denied her Social Security number (SSN), you need to apply for, and file with an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). Find out more about that.
If the application hasn't been rejected, the best thing to do is to wait for the SSN to be processed and file your return after.
Hi,
My wife was not denied SSN, we didn't receive any letter or email from the Social Security office regarding her SSN, so I am not sure if she was denied or not. Is there to apply a PIN for her or any other way that will help me finish filing my taxes?
Regards.
Wait for the SSN. If you don't receive it by April 15, you should apply for the automatic extension to file. Certain tax benefits may be denied if you file before a valid SSN is issued. She should not apply for an ITIN if she is eligible for an SSN.
