My tax refund is frozen, what should I do?

I filed at the beginning of February, after 3 weeks of my refund saying it’s processing it switched to saying they’ve received my return and it’s being reviewed. I received the reference number 1242 whenever i chose to call the IRS. I called the IRS early March and finally got ahold of someone after waiting for nearly two hours. The person told me that I should be receiving a letter in 30 days and basically I need to show the IRS where I got my tax refund amount from.  I’m guessing something was wrong or they need me to verify something. She told me she would reach out to my local IRS office to get the letter to me quicker. It is now the beginning of May and I haven’t received a letter nor has my status changed. Should I refile?

Refiling your return will not help to resolve the issue, whatever it is.

Instead, you should contact the IRS to follow-up with them since you have still not received a letter with any further instructions or information.

You can try to contact your local IRS office to see if they may be further assistance.  Use this link to find the one closest to you:  Contact Your Local IRS Office
