My son has been in prison for 5 years he was told I can use my receipts for the past year to claim the money for a deduction on my taxes so I can get some money back?

Sorry, whoever told him that is wrong. Anything you are sending your son--money, personal items, etc.--would be considered gifts. Gifts to individuals are not deductible.
