My sister is in prison and is eligible to receive the stimulus checks. She has not received any yet while other prisoners in the federal prison have. How can I help.

She said other prisoner's families filed for their stimulus check for them, but I cannot figure out how to do that. Any help would be appreciated.

Even if you did not have any income in 2020, you can use the free edition of TurboTax Online to prepare and e-file your tax return in order to claim the stimulus payments known as the Recovery Rebate credit. The federal return will file as usual and will not be rejected. Any state return should be removed, as there will not be a state filing requirement.

In TurboTax Online, to claim the Recovery Rebate credit please do the following:

1. Sign into your account and continue from where you left off
2. Click on Federal in the left-hand column, then on Federal Review on the top of the screen
3. On the next page titled Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount, click on Continue
4. Follow the interview
5. TurboTax will determine whether you are entitled to any additional stimulus
6. Any stimulus amount remaining due to you will show as a credit on line 30 of your form 1040.

Thank you for your response. Will I have to login on my sisters turbotax account to file for her or can I do it on my own even though I already filed my taxes?

It depends on what kind of account you have with TurboTax. If you have an TurboTax Online, you may file one return. If you are using TurboTax CD/Download, you are able to file five returns. You may have to log in to your sisters TurboTax account.
