Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

My return was at 4K. Same as last year. I got back on today to finish , Idk what I did, but it then changed to 2k. My income, etc is exactly the same as last year.

I reviewed it today, to continue, it had me check a box for my pension: I don’t recall seeing it before. My pension shouldn’t be taxed, but I think it was and that’s why it decreased by 2k. I just submitted it. How can I fix it?

We do not know if there is really anything that needs to be fixed.   But even if there is.....

Did you click that big orange button that said “Transmit my return now?”  If you did that, you cannot do anything to fix it yet.  You have to wait for the email that tells you if your return was accepted or rejected.

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it.  It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner.  The IRS does not allow you to take it back.

If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.”  The changes will go nowhere.

Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return.  If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.

If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund.  THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail  it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally.  You will need to use a form called a 1040X.

Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself.  Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed

The Form 1040X you might need became available in mid February,  But wait until your return has been processed.

If you submitted the tax return you will have to wait for it to be completely processed before you make changes (Amend) your return.

In the mean time please clarify your question.

  • Why do you think your pension is not taxable?
  • Do you have a special circumstance?
  • Did you get a 1099-R?
  • What is the code in box 7?

Hi! Yes it’s exempt I received it early because of disability. The code is 2 because it is disability according to the state pension definition.
My return is always the same since my income doesn’t change.  I was prompted to fix a question and when I did it subtracted 2k from my return, it changed my state rerun to me owing too. It had to do with taxing my pension. I got it fixed on the state return but i couldn’t find where to fix it on my federal return. I was intending to call an accountant. I forgot and submitted it. When I remembered I needed to call it was too late.
I’m hoping they will maybe find the error. Prob not. Ugh
