I tried the IRS, "Where's my refund?" site. I called them by phone and always get recorded questions. If I push 0 for an operator, it just continues with questions. I want to talk to a person that can answer, "Where is my refund".
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
To contact the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do not choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do not choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don’t enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Then press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
It should then transfer you to an agent.
Does your e-file status show that the IRS accepted the return? If your e-file status shows "No Record" please click here - "No Record Found" when looking up your e-file status at turbotax.com You would receive an email with a order number when you pay your TurboTax fees but that is not confirmation of your return being e-filed. When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first one will say that your return was submitted. The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected. If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return. If it's been processed and accepted, you can begin to track your refund at the IRS Where's My Refund? site. You'll need your Social Security number or ITIN, filing status, and the exact amount of your federal refund to check your status. The IRS will issue your refund when your return is approved. The IRS issues most refunds in about 21 days, although some returns take more time to review.
Here is the general timeline of e-filed returns:
Transmission > Acceptance > Processing > Approval > Refund.
