My husband volunteered with an NGO in Colombia for 9 months & made approx $2000. We have no W-2. Is it required to record this info in our joint return? If so, how?

We asked the NGO for a W-2, but they have not responded.

Whether you receive a W-2 or a 1099 makes no difference to Uncle Sam. If you made money, you must claim it as income.
The GOOD NEWS is that if he "earned" 2K, then he is also entitled to deduct his reasonable expenses from that income----like expenses to travel there ( if he paid them), communications costs (cell phone, mail) special clothing that was required, out of pocket food expenses, etc.
It might actually result in a LOSS! Use schedule C.
