So very sorry. You can still file a joint return for 2016, so that you get personal exemptions for each of you and the married filing jointly standard deduction. When you go through the Personal Info section, go carefully through the questions about your husband. There will be a screen that says "Do any of these apply to (his name)?" You will need to check that he died before filing the return. Then there will be a drop down where you enter the date he passed away.
Continue with the return, entering whatever income information, deductions, etc. for the two of you. If you need any further help, we will be glad to help. Just post here in Answer Xchange.
If you are still supporting dependent children, for the next two years after your husband's death, you can file as a qualified widow.
