If you don't have a dependent, your status is Single for 2016 tax year and going forward or until you remarry. If you do have a dependent you may use qualifying widow(er) with dependent child as your filing status for 2 years following the year your spouse died (so 2016 and 2017).

If you don't have a dependent, your status is Single for 2016 tax year and going forward or until you remarry. If you do have a dependent you may use qualifying widow(er) with dependent child as your filing status for 2 years following the year your spouse died (so 2016 and 2017).
