Unfortunately, the IRS does not notify us of the status of a tax return once it is accepted by them. When they accept a return it is just a preliminary acceptance. Once it is accepted an actual person reviews the return and at that point, they can request more information and also make adjustments to the return. Honestly, the IRS would be the only people to tell you exactly why they are requesting the ID Verification.
