My federal return is showing $0 refund. i should have an earned income credit and never received for 2018.

2018 is a separate tax year, you will not see anything on a 2019 return if you are owed money on a 2018 tax return.

For your 2019 Earned Income Tax Credit, I would first check the Form 1040 and see if you have a figure for the EIC.

To pull up a copy of your 2019 Form 1040 and Schedules 1 to 3 in TurboTax Online, follow these directions:

  • You should be signed in and working in TurboTax
  • Click on Federal in the main left-hand side menu
  • Click Tax Tools, then Tools in the main left-hand side menu
  • In the pop-up window, click on View Tax Summary
  • The left-hand menu has now changed, click on View My 1040

Scroll down to the second page of the Form 1040. Look at Line 18a, Earned Income Tax Credit, and see if there is a figure listed.

If you do not have a figure listed, click on "Back" in the left-hand menu. The go to the EIC section and walk through the screens:

  • While signed in and working in TurboTax
  • Click on Federal in the left-hand black menu
  • Click on Deductions and Credits
  • Scroll down and click on Show More next to You and Your Family
  • Click on Start or Revisit next to Earned Income Credit (EIC)
