My daughter had a summer job in 2016, we received a w-2 for her and I wanted to know if she needs to file. She made $1186.20. Please let me know. Thank you,

Your daughter is not required to files as her W-2 wages are well below her Standard Deduction.

However, she may wish to file to obtain a refund of her withholdings.

If she does file with TurboTax Free Edition, she should check the box Someone else can claim me on their tax return in the personal information section.
