Sometimes the social security number of a deceased person is frozen to prevent its fraudulent use. You may have to mail your return.
Although this is true since all mortuaries are required to report SSNs of deceased individuals, the only thing that worked was another suggestion to make the first name listed be the surviving spouse. Once I did this, ensuring the information throughout the file was corrected, it went right through. I also read the information provided by IRS on recently deceased and (as part of the name) put the word deceased in parentheses after the last name. Good luck to anybody else with this problem, and my condolences on your loss. I’m sure you are overwhelmed with the problems you’ve encountered throughout your journey 😢
