Married October 2024- I amended my state and fed due to filing MFS when it needed to be MFJ. State is corrected and accepted, Federal is rejecting for “ IND-032-04”

I am having trouble finding where to even fix AGI for my spouse. When you amend your taxes, your home page options change.

AGI (adjusted gross income) is found on line 11 of Form 1040. Did your spouse already also file MFS? In some cases, it is possible that entering 0 for AGI will allow the return to be accepted.

How do I amend Married Filing Separately returns to Married Filing Jointly?

Open your tax file and go to File. Proceed to the screen, "Review Your Federal Filing Choices". Review your Identifying Information (AGI). If you filed a prior year return, you must enter the Prior Year AGI for the Taxpayer (and Spouse if applicable). Do not use the tabs at the top of the screen to exit this interview. Once you have made the necessary corrections, you may resubmit this return for electronic filing. If the reject continues, you may need to print and file this return by mail.
