Loss returns on turbo tax

I filed all of my return prior to July 15th and my intent was to print the returns later. I also did 3 other returns for relatives in 2019.  For some reason a week later when I decided to print out a hard copy of the return, instead of the normal screen with my completed return, it came up with a screen to enter my key code again. Not thinking much of it I re-entered by key code. Big mistake cause now it looks like it is now treating me like I'm just starting my return and my 4 returns I did for 2019 no longer appears! The files are still there but how do i get them to reappear in my 2019 turbo tax? In respect I must have pushed the wrong button for it to ask me to enter my key code.

In the Desktop program?  It asked you to enter the 14 digit License Code again?  Turbo Tax asks for the License Code each time you start

But to open a return what happens when you go up to File-Open?  Don't they all show up?  You have the .tax2019 files on your computer?  Did you save each return under a different name?

Sorry for the delay in responding. I thought any anwser would go straight to my email account. After re-entering my license code it is treating me like I am using 2019 turbo tax for the first time. My 4 completed 2019 returns no longer appears when I try to open my files. It actually want me to transfer my 2018 data over again. Tell you the truth this is the 1st time it asked me to re-enter my license code. I think that is the problem. When you save any updates do you know what directory they would be located in?

Are you on Windows or Mac? If you used the Windows Desktop program you need the file ending in .tax2019 to open in it.  The tax files (and PDF files) should be in your Documents then in a Turbo Tax subfolder.  If you can't find them do a search for all files ending in .tax or .tax2019, etc.  And check the Recycle Bin.  For Windows 10 check the One Drive.  Did you make any backups?  Like DropBox.

If you don't have the main .tax file you might have one that starts with a Tilde sign ~ like  "~your name.tax2019".  That file is if your computer crashes or your real file gets lost or deleted or corrupt so you can restore it.

I called directly turbo tax support and they walk me through the process as you mentioned. All the files were still on my hard drive. Lots of people have complained about it too & personally I think this is a bug in their software if others have had the same issue.  I will back to my 2017 & 2018 turbo applications and I had the same problems with these year where my returns for those year no longer pointed to the returns either. I had to go through an reinitialize all of those years too. Thanks for your quick responses to me.

So are you ok now?  You found the .taxyyyy files?  Then why couldn't the program open them?  What did you have to do?  Reinstall the programs?

After you get the program installed the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to FILE - NEW TAX RETURN)

Yes problem has been resolved. I found the files when I search for the .tax2019 files. I had to pull each of my tax returns back into Turbo tax and saved the file. My tax returns are back into my 2019 Turbo Tax program. Had to do the same for my 2017 & 2018. I suppose all my prior years if I have to review I would have to do the same for those returns too.

Thanks,

Walter
