Looking at last years federal income tax, where can I find what my federal income tax was after non-refundable credits?

• Form 1040   Line 56

• Form 1040A   Line 39

I don’t have line 56. I have 55 and then 57... I’m looking at 1040 for 2018

2018 1040 does not have that many lines.  Are you looking at the 2018 Schedules?  Are you looking at the 2017 1040?
