Last year, 2015 tax return, I used a service to file my taxes. I still bought and used 2015 Turbo Tax to compare the results. Now TT thinks I need to finish filing.

How do I tell TT - no thanks but I would like to use TT for 2016 (the results from TT and the CPA were very close, so CPA was not worth the cost)

You need to make the program "THINK" you have filed your return. Select the option to print and file, and then actually print it out. From what I see on my screen, you are using the online version. So you will have to pay first, before you can print, save, or transfer anything when you do your 2016 tax return.

I like your idea and will try it.  Actually I'm using the desktop version (always have) and I did buy (and pay for) the 2015 version, no problems there.  I wanted to see if a CPA type of service would find deductions that TT didn't, be easier, be faster, or be better otherwise.  Their numbers and mine using TT were very close within $10.  And they weren't faster or easier (all of the work is organizing your docs, entering it into TT is about the same as uploading to the CPA).  So lesson learned...

Did you purchase the 2016 software that was just released recently?    The 2015 software can only prepare a 2015 return.  New software is needed every year.   The 2016 software should not care if you finished your 2015 return or not.

When you start a new 2016 return in the new 2016 software, the program will look to see if it can find a tax data file from last year.  It may find the unfinished *.tax2015 data file on your computer and ask you if you want to transfer it into the 2016 return.  Since your 2015 data file was apparently a "test return" and might not be a true replica of your return as filed, then you can choose "continue without transferring" so you don't transfer wrong information into your return.   Or if you do want to transfer the information, you should carefully review and edit all the transferred data as necessary to make sure it jives with the 2015 return "as filed."
