It's not a problem, however you need to amend your return as soon as your return is accepted and processed by the IRS.  If the return is rejected you can fix it right away and resend your corrected return.

If you already filed and got an acceptance from the IRS you can amend the return as soon as it's available.  Keep checking back.

Review all the information and instructions before you begin. The original figures must remain in tact until you have the ability to amend.  Also, if you have a balance due, meaning you owe some money back to the IRS, you must file and pay before April 17th, to avoid penalty and interest.

You can prepare the amendment so that you know the final results as soon as possible.  It is not recommended to file the amended return until the IRS has finished processing the original return.  The instructions below will provide what you need to know.

The amended return is required to be mailed because the IRS does not allow E-file for this process.  The mailing address for your area can be found at this link:   Where to File Paper Returns With or Without a Payment
