It’s been 44 days since my taxes were accepted. Is the IRS behind this year?

Yes. part is due to the recent ARP tax act.  especially for taxpayers who have items on their return that were affected because the IRS has decided to amend the returns on the fly rather than having millions of amended returns sent in.

Yes indeed.  The IRS is seriously backlogged due to all the extra stimulus filings, as well as a few million unprocessed 2019 returns left over from the COVID shutdown.  Lots of other folks are still waiting, so please continue to be patient.  Also see:
