Approximately 90% of taxpayers will receive their refunds in less than 21 days from the day their tax return was accepted by the IRS. Most people receive their refund in an average of 10-14 days.

Here's a link to help you track it.  https://www.irs.gov/refunds

The IRS releases most refunds within 21 calendar days after the e-filed return has been accepted (received), not 21 days from the e-filing date.

We know you'd like your refund as fast as possible, but we have no control over how fast the IRS or your state returns your money to you. We're unable to track down, research, or expedite your refund, because those actions are only done by the government—you'll have to contact the IRS or your state tax office for help.

If you still haven't received your refund or your refund is less than you expected, it's possible you may have a refund offset.

  • For mailed returns, allow 5–6 weeks from the postmark date. (If you claimed an Earned Income Tax Credit and/or an Additional Child Tax Credit and filed before February 15, 2019, you’ll get your refund the week of February 27 at the earliest.)
  • Wait 24 hours after your federal return has been accepted before looking it up at Where's My Refund?
  • If you don’t have a computer or internet access, you can check the status of your refund by calling the IRS at 800-829-1954.
  • For more information, you can also view Where's My Refund FAQs.
  • If you opted to e-file and you entered an incorrect account number for direct deposit, the government will mail you a refund check, allow 5–6 weeks from the postmark date.

It depends.

The IRS issues a lot of refunds within 21 days, but it has been taking longer with the stimulus payment being issued in addition to the tax refunds.

Same!  I filed on 2/22/21 and have not received a refund or third stimulus.  If I check the IRS site, I get:

Your tax return is still being processed.

A refund date will be provided when available.

Check the IRS site for stimulus and get - Payment Status - Not Available

I know the IRS is running behind this year, but it would be nice to know if something is wrong with my return, or is this something other TT users that filed at a similar time are experiencing?

The IRS is having a hard time this year. Each return must be cross checked for the normal and now with the new laws:

  • stimulus- is it correct, pay missing amounts, do they need to be added for the new stimulus
  • unemployment - is it on there, was it filed with the $10,200 subtraction, does it need to be adjusted
  • premium tax credit - is it on there, is there an amount due, adjust the return
  • EIC - is it on, were they banned, is there a record of release to claim?
  • Child credit -anybody else claim, how old are kids, what is allowed
  • and so on for still more, it is a long process this year to check each return for so many things.

The IRS is also processing returns mailed in last year and handling the current stimulus. They have scheduled this summer to adjust unemployment on returns.

@linda_b

@Foozoh     The simpler your return, no credits, no stimulus, no kids, etc, the faster it goes through for the whole country. If you have unemployment, the IRS will start working on singles in May after tax season.

@Foozoh Did you ever receive anything from IRS?  I'm still waiting and mine was accepted 2/22.  The irs.gov site has no update, I've called and they have no update.  I haven't received anything in the mail.  I'm just curious if your was ever processed since we submitted/accepted around a similar time.

The IRS is seriously backlogged due to all the new tax laws and extra stimulus filings, as well as unprocessed 2019 returns left over from the COVID shutdown.  In addition, the Where's My Refund site has been erratic and unreliable.  But if TT told you that the IRS Accepted your efiling for processing, then the government has it.  (Approved is a later step, but TT receives no further updates once a return is Accepted.)  Unfortunately, contacting the IRS will not speed things up.  Lots of other folks are still waiting, so please continue to be patient.  Also see:
