Is there a delay in receiving our federal tax returns this year?

It depends. The IRS states that most refunds are received within 21 days from the time a return has been accepted and a refund option is selected. They started accepting tax returns on January 29, 2018. However, they will hold the refunds claiming EITC and ACTC-related returns until Mid-February. They expect the earliest EITC/ACTC related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or on debit cards starting on Feb. 27, 2018, if those taxpayers chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with the tax return. This additional period is due to several factors, including banking and financial systems needing time to process deposits.
