You have to wait for your return to be fully processed in order to amend and change the way you answered the question in My Info about whether you can be claimed as someone else's dependent.  Do not try to amend a tax return that is still being processed or it will lead to confusion and delays.

If you incorrectly said you could not be claimed as someone else's dependent, then the person who can claim you will not be able to e-file their own return this year at all.  Their return will have to be printed, signed and mailed--and no sense to wait for you to amend since your amendment will take months.

If you want to change from saying you could be claimed to say that you cannot be claimed, after your return is processed you can do that.  Do not expect that amended return to yield a stimulus check this year.  Amended returns are taking MUCH longer than the "normal" four months.

as to changing dependency status, the question to answer on your return is not whether you were claimed as a dependent but whether you could be claimed as a dependent.

so here are the rules

you could be claimed as a qualifying child if all these tests are met
• you have the same principal abode as the other party for more than ½ the tax year. Temporary absences like for school are ignored
• If not a full-time student, under 19 at the end of the tax year. If a full-time student under 24 at end of tax year.
• you haven't provided over ½ your own support
• you didn't file a joint return unless there was no tax liability but merely filing joint to facilitate refund of taxes withheld or estimates paid
or as you could be a qualifying relative if all these test are met
> your related or if not lived with the other party for the entire year
• your gross income for 2019 less than $4,200
• the other party provided over ½ his support
• he isn't a qualifying child of another taxpayer
