Had problem yesterday when I tried to E-file my TurboTax generated 2019 federal tax return because of an AGI mismatch with IRS information. Got notice from IRS that I never filed my 2018 tax return. However, I did file it through TurboTax and have a copy of the E-mail from TurboTax telling me that the IRS accepted my 2018 return. How do I start to get out of this mess?

Note: If you filed late or amended your return, your correct 2018 AGI may not be in the system.

Note: If you mail your federal return, you will also need to mail your state return. You will not be able to e-file your state return.

it is a good idea to use a mailing service that will track it like UPS or certified mail. Then you will know the IRS received it.
I neither filed my 2018 return late nor did I amend it. Was paying by direct withdrawal from my bank. That transaction never appeared on my bank records.
Then it sounds like the return may have not been filed at all. Did you e-file it or send it in the mail? If you e-filed it, look at the status in your TT account. If it says anything other than "Accepted" it was not filed. If that is the case, you need to print it, sign it and mail it.
Meanwhile, while you are sorting that out, you will want to get your 2019 return filed ASAP. Try using "zero" as the AGI for the 2019 return and see it will let you e-file. If zero does not work then you have to print, sign and mail 2019.
