Please clarify your question.
I was supposed to get $4,600, over $2,000 from my work and almost another $2,000 for my dependent for a number of things, but the IRS said my dependent information was wrong but then proceeded to give me only my dependent money, and not my work. I feel if I could check everything and resend it in, it'd be fine, but TurboTax hasn't updated it to show I only received $1,800, it still shows the first amount of $4,600, so Im not able to amend it yet because it shows no difference~
TurboTax does not get information back from the IRS regarding your refund amount so you will not see this amount change.
When you are saying the IRS is not giving you your work money back but they are your dependent money even though they said your dependent information is wrong, where did you get this information? Did you get a letter from the IRS stating what was removed from your refund?
Generally, the most cut and dry portion of a refund is the amount you are getting back or owe (as long as you entered your W-2's and everything else correctly) from your job.
If you made $18,000 in 2021 and have one dependent and had $2,000 withheld for taxes, your refund would be $2,000. Your credits (your dependent money) has many variables. Your child or dependent has to qualify and when it comes to the stimulus, many people already received it and forgot it.
You can log back into your return and walk through all the sections to look at your answers to make sure there wasn't a typo. You can also look at your 1040 from this year and compare it to last year to see what would have changed the most. This would point you in the direction to find the errors. The IRS will be sending you a letter explaining what happened and why they made the changes. You can also call the IRS @ 800-829-1040 for answers, but you should be prepared for long hold times.
Yes I'm getting it from the letter they sent me, and all the information I provided was correct. And even so if they said my dependent information was incorrect, and only gave me my work refund that'd be fine, but they gave me the opposite, over $2,000 of it was from my jobs. But even so the entire problem is I'm unable to update anything until it changes the amount I received on TurboTax, because it will show no difference, I know, I tried~
First, your return would have to be changed to match the IRS return that was changed and is now the original. Then TurboTax can help to make the amendment from the latest figures on the tax return (IRS figures).
You may want to contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS). They are in place to assist in situations where you are unable to obtain resolution on your own.
This will get the process started for you. It's not going to be a fast process because they are handling a large volume at this time.
If you do not hear from TAS within one week of submitting Form 911, contact the Taxpayer Advocate office where you originally submitted your request. Incomplete information or requests submitted to a Taxpayer Advocate office outside of your geographical location may result in delays.
Just to be certain, you can contact the Social Security Administration (SSA) to confirm the name, birth date and social security number (SSN) of your dependent. The SSA and IRS exchange information regularly.
