IRS has not taken my payment from my checking account. What should I do

You can check the date that you specified by looking at your Filing Instructions document (or Electronic Filing Instructions document), which prints out as part of your tax return paperwork. Your chosen tax payment method will display at the top of the page, in the Balance Due/Refund section.  Verify the direct debit info is correct. 

As long as you filed your return or extension on or before April 18, 2016 and you selected April 18, 2016 (or earlier) as your payment date, you won't get penalized for late payment.

If you still don't see the debit 7-10 days after your return has been accepted, call IRS e-file Payment Services at 1-888-353-4537 or contact your state tax agency, as appropriate.
