In order for me to get both stimulus check payments do I need to amend my 1040 form for the mistake of being claimed as a dependent or can I just use the recovery rebate credit?

the only thing that matters is your 2020 tax return.  amending 2019 is not going to get you the stimulus payments.   The recovery rebate credit is part of the 2020 tax return.

So I will just have to do the recovery rebate credit part and make sure to not be able to be claimed as a dependent in order to get my stimulus payments?  What does the recovery rebate credit look like?... a check box or actual form?

When you go through the federal review tab it will ask how much you got if any.  Or to enter your stimulus payment in TurboTax, type "stimulus" (without the quotes) in the Search box, then click the link that says "Jump to stimulus."

It will be on 1040 line 30
