Im trying to file old taxes using transcripts from the irs. however, only the last four numbers of the EIN is shown. the others are Xed out

That is correct, and part of new IRS security measures. You must get the W-2's form the employers.

You really don't need those if these are old returns since you will mail them in with the copies of the transcripts in lieu of the actual tax forms ... simply enter in 12- 3456789 for the EIN in the program to get past the error  messages.
