If we are dependent this year but independent next tax season 2021 we will get our tax season then

So this past season my parents claimed me as dependent but i am not. They filed first and put me as dependent even though they do not support me financially so when it was my turn i couldnt put myself as independent so to not waste time and get my refund as quick as possible, i put myself as dependent. Now i am figuring out that becasue of this i wont get my stimulus check but i heard that we put ourselves as independent next tax season we will then get out stimulus check in 2021. Can someone please confirm or deny this. Should i amend the taxes now or just wait till 2021 ( but only if it is true that we will get it on year later in 2021 ).

I assume that you are older than 17 so your parents will not get the $500 stimulus payment for you in any event. You can get the $1,200 stimulus for yourself when you do your 2020 filing in 2021 as someone who is not a dependent.
