You could not have filed your 2023 tax return in October 2023. You must be talking about your 2022 tax return.
Is the bill for the "amount you owe" on line 37 of the Form 1040 that you filed, plus penalties and interest?
How did you pay the amount of tax that you owed on your tax return? Direct debit from your checking account? Direct Pay or EFTPS on the IRS web site? Mailed a check with a Form 1040-V payment voucher? Another way?
How did you pay it? Did you mail a check? It might have crossed in the mail. Or you might have sent the check in with the wrong voucher slip. It should be a single 1040V voucher. If you send in a 1040ES slip that is for an Estimated Payment for NEXT year and didn't get applied to 2022 balance due. Check your IRS account to see if they got it. You need to send a copy of the check or bank statement showing the payment was paid.
