WAIT for your first return to be fully processed BEFORE you amend or you just make it too confusing for yourself and for the IRS. But do not be surprised if you owe when you remove a dependent because you will lose the credits you were getting for claiming that dependent. If the dependent is an adult you lose the $500 credit for other dependents. If the dependent is a qualifying child you may be losing earned income credit, childcare credit, child tax credit, and even possibly Head of Household filing status.
Removing a dependent will indeed increase tax on the return and if you already owe, then you will owe more. However, if you must amend, you may do so Free by using TurboTax since you used TurboTax originally.
If you prepared your original tax return using TurboTax, log in to your account, open the tax return you already filed, and click on the link to amend your return. From there, the software will walk you through the process of filing the amendment.
