Are you referring to box 4 "Social Security Tax Withheld" on your W-2? And it only has a 3? Ask your employer.

If Box 4 of your W-2 "Social Security Tax Withheld" is $3, I expect that Box 3 "Social Security Wages" is $48.

Your portion of the tax for Social Security's wages is 6.2%.

If Box 3 is not $48 you should contact your employer.
