If I efiled my federal taxes, why did I receive a letter in the mail from the IRS requesting payment?

Did you have a tax due?  How was it supposed to be paid?  Your only proof it was paid is your bank statement or credit card.  Turbo Tax doesn't pay it.   Or did the IRS change your return?  Or is it for interest or an estimated payment penalty?

TurboTax never receives any information from the IRS (or your state) after you file your tax return, so no one at TurboTax knows about a letter sent to you by the IRS.  You do not say what tax year the letter is for, or what the letter says except that the IRS wants you to pay.  We can only guess unless you provide some details about what the letter says.  But please do not post any personal information on this public site.

If you selected that you would pay by direct bank account debit, you need to check your own bank records to see if the account was debited.  You might have mis-typed an account number, preventing the payment.  If you selected you would pay by credit card, you would have to verify with the card if the taxes were paid.  As before, you might have mis-typed a number or the credit card company might have rejected the attempt.

If you can prove you made a payment and the IRS did not record it, send a copy of your proof to the IRS.  Othewise, you may need to pay now.
