My 19 yr old daughter is a full time student. She lived with us for the entire year of 2016. She has a part time job after school. Her total income of 2016 is $4880. Does she need to file a federal tax return? Does she also has to file a state tax return? Can she file a federal tax return only? Thanks

You can claim her as a dependent and also claim her education expenses (on form 1098-T).
She does not need to file a tax return as her gross income from a job is less than $6,300. However, she may wish to file a tax return as she will receive a refund of all the federal tax withheld. If she had state tax withheld, she should also file a state return to get a refund. She has to indicate on her return that she is claimed as a dependent by someone else (in the Personal Info section of TurboTax).
