I went in under tools and fixed my return but the first return was already sent it.

When I do the amended return and if the money due to me is more than what they already sent do I get that money under the amended file

Please explain what you have done.   It is too soon to amend a 2025 tax return.   The Form 1040X is not yet available, so if you just went into your tax return and changed anything after already e-filing, you have messed up the return.   Try to put it back to exactly the way it was when you filed it.    If you need to amend because of a missing W-2, etc. you have to be able to work from the return exactly the way it looked when it was e-filed.   You must use a form called a 1040X which is not scheduled to be available until February 19.   Restore the return to its original appearance and back away from the keyboard for now.

Yes, if your amendment shows a greater refund than you had on the original return you filed the IRS will send you the difference after processing your amended tax return.  Follow the instructions so that TurboTax knows the original figures and the changed numbers for your amendment.

First wait to see if your return was accepted or rejected.

  • Accepted: An amended return must be completed to make the corrections.
  • Rejected:  Make the change before you resubmit your return through e-file.

If it was accepted you can amend your tax return using the information below. The amended Form 1040-X will be ready later this month. The IRS is not willing to accept amendments until later in the tax season. Uses the links below for assistance and readiness.
