I was working on my 2016 tax return but when I opened it to continue discovered that I was then working on my 2018 Taxes. Where are my 2016 Taxes? Cannot find them?

preparation online can only be used for 2019.  earlier years need the desktop software. also, only 2019 can be e-filed.  when you mail the returns use a method where you get proof of delivery. follow TT filing instructions.

Do you have the 2016 program on your computer ?    And the 2018 program ?   If so you may have opened the incorrect program ....to continue the return open the 2016 version.

Where are you "working" on that return?  It is impossible to use the online program now for any tax year except 2019.  Online software preparation is closed for any other year.  If you are using desktop software then click on forms and see the year that is displayed on the forms to make sure you are in the right year.  And just so you know, it is now too late to get a refund for a 2016 return.  If you owe tax due, though, you still have to pay. The IRS will calculate your interest and penalties and send you a bill based on when they receive your mailed late return and payment.
