If you paid alimony in 2018, entered the correct Social Security number of the recipient of the alimony then there should have been no issue with the IRS concerning the alimony payment.

If the EX did not report the alimony as income then that may have triggered the CP2000 notice. To refute their conclusion you would need to show proof the alimony was paid as you claim and that it was indeed alimony ( give them a copy of the divorce decree ... front page, signature page and the page that spells out the alimony terms will do).
