An eligible health care practitioner who has provided health care services in New Mexico in a rural health care underserved area, as determined by the Department of Health, may claim a credit against their personal income tax liability.
Eligible pysicians, osteopathic physicians, dentists, clinical psychologists, podiatrists, and optometrists may be allowed a credit up to $5,000. Qualified dental hygenists, physician assistants, certified nurse-midwives, certified registered nurse anesthetists, certified nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists may be allowed a credit up to $3,000.
