If you have already filed your tax return, you cannot change it. You can try contacting the IRS and or State to see if the direct deposit can be stopped and have a paper check sent in the mail.
To contact the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don’t enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Then press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
It should then transfer you to an agent.
To contact your Department of State Revenue - click here contact your state tax agency then click on your state for contact information.
If you have not filed yet: To change how your refund is coming (or if you get rejected, you can change it):
1. Open your return in TurboTax.
2. Click on “Take me to my return” if applicable.
3. Go to the “File” section in the left-hand menu.
4. Next to Step 2: Your refund info select “Revisit”.
5. Choose your desired refund method and select Continue.
