When you're filing out the Arizona tax return the section asking about credits is at the end of the interview. Read through the options and find the solar power credit (form 310).
I tried that and it said it didn't support that form and it directed me to a different website to fill out a form of which I didn't have the answers to and didn't seem right.
So I ended up just filing and getting the federal credit for going solar but not getting it from the state. Can I retroactively go back or amend to still get that? If so when would be best to do that?
It depends. To clarify, what Turbo Tax form is not being supported because as RobertB4444 mentioned, AZ form 310 is available in Turbo Tax Online.
Yes, you can amend your AZ state Tax return to claim the credit. The bad news is that if you try to begin the amendment process in Turbo Tax Online you will need to wait until 03/26 to begin the amendment process. This is because the federal amendment form is not available yet and the program will not let you just amend the state return.
The only solution is to purchase a Turbo Tax Software program because you do have an option to specifically prepare a state amended return. I don't know if you wish to go this route because you will need to pay for the Software Download in addition to paying for the Online Deluxe product. If you wish to do this, reply back to me at @DaveF1006 in this thread and I will give you specific instructions on how to do this.
Thanks for the reply Dave,
I don't really mind waiting for the 3/26 date you had mentioned to begin the amendment process... that would work for me. I searched for the solar credit a couple times before finally deciding to just move forward and file... the one I had picked from the list was the renewable energy option. I don't remember the exactly form that I had clicked that had rerouted me to a different website to download the form to fill out but I want to say it was 340 or 330. I figured since Turbo tax knew I was getting the federal credit that it would prompt the state return to notice as well. So all in all can you give me the steps I need to take once that 3/26 date hits and what all it entails I would need to do to amend? Really appreciate it!
Here is a link with amending a state return instructions. Once the amendment forms are ready you can go back to this link for any updates to the instructions. The process should be the same, but sometimes...you never know.
Once you have arrived at the state return, to amend follow @RobertB4444 instructions to find the AZ credit near the end of the interview.
Once your changes are entered you'll be instructed to print/mail the amendment.
