So I used TurboTax as I have for many years to file my taxes. I believe TurboTax provides some sort of guarantee that they will be accurate, but will they do anything to assist if the state is arguing with the result even after I sent in the Turbotax materials?
So based on large capital gains that we had as we purchased a home in cash, our Ohio taxes resulted in an underpayment penalty. Turbotax as part of its final review said there is a way to lower that penalty and in short said if I pay earlier than April 15 it would be less because of less interest. The net difference was $19. So I paid my taxes in full when I filed on 1/29/26 instead of waiting until 4/15/26. Turbotax provided a worksheet for OH 2210 form for the penalty showing how the amount owed was $48 instead of $67. I sent the form and worksheet to Ohio to contest the letter I received and they just sent a reply tonight that they were not in agreement and that I owe the $19. The worksheet TurboTax provided makes total sense and the calculations are clear. Is there some process I can use where someone at Turbotax gets involved to defend this? Again, I thought that was part of their "guarantee" that the forms will all be accurate and accepted.

TurboTax does offer support options when customers receive an audit notice. To learn more, please see this article, TurboTax Audit Support Center.
It's not an audit. It's a "Notice of Adjustment". A direct reply indicated the forms I submitted from Turbotax were in error. That is one of the reasons I have always used them is because they guaranteed their calculations were accurate and if not they did something about it.
If you pay an IRS or state penalty or interest because of a TurboTax calculation error, we’ll pay you the penalty and interest.
That is what I think applies here.
If you believe the issue was caused by an error in the TurboTax software, you must submit an Accuracy Guarantee claim within 30 days of receiving their first penalty assessment notice. Here's the link to submit the Accuracy Guarantee Claim.
